Daniel Radcliffe plans to take on the role of Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the forthcoming film thriller Kill Your Darlings, according to twitchfilm.com. Radcliffe is set to replace Oscar nominee and Asuncion playwright Jesse Eisenberg, who had been announced to play Ginsberg in 2009 alongside Chris Evans as Jack Kerouac and Ben Whishaw as Lucien Carr. No word on whether Evans and Whishaw will join Radcliffe in the film, to be directed by John Krokidas.
Kill Your Darlings is described as a gay-themed drama about the friendship of Ginsberg, Kerouac, William Burroughs and Carr, which was upended when Carr killed a jealous older admirer, David Kammerer, in 1944. The new film is not related to Howl, the 2010 film drama starring James Franco as Ginsberg and featuring Aaron Tveit as Peter Orlovsky.
Radcliffe is set to depart the Broadway production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on January 1, 2012.
